Hi Mike,

Then I'm confused. How many MAIN/TOP categories are there supposed to be? Thought is was narrowed down to about 11.

I see Main cats like:

Penis Enlargers
Pussy Pumps & Pelvic Exercisers
Sexy Halloween Costumes and Accessories
Strap-ons & Harnesses

etc. Total of about 40-41 from what I counted.

Hi Denis,

What you see at STC is currently the new category structure. The newcats feed has all the cat id numbers of many different categories. Just because you see something as a main category doesn't mean that category id is active for the products. For example the Valentines Day category is only active during that holiday. However it still shows as a main root category. The same goes for other categories that have root id number.

Understood.

Will modify the newcats.csv for our use, as a reference only, by keeping the constants (about 8 top categories) that our customers use.

Any word when the N/A Fourth Level will be moved into Third Level cats?

Hello,

We are continuing to work on the category tree. We merged, closed and created a lot of new categories. Additionally, we needed to move products. This is a work in progress. I am hoping that it will be complete next week.

Thank you for your patience.

Autumn

Default Question

hello,

Will the current feeds remain the same?

I ask this because I have spent countless hours backlinking and spent a lot of money on SEO for my website, and should I change my Categories at all My backlinks become pointless and a huge waste of money...

Can I keep the current feeds updating? changing them now renders all my efforts for the last year and a half useless.

The feeds are constantly changing, sometimes there are major changes like the new category structure. Other times it's just a few categories that get a name change. At all times products are being added and discontinued. It's the nature of the feeds to constantly change.

The thread at:
http://forums.sextoyclub.com/showthread.php?t=933

has 18 separate dates over this past year that has 1 to several category name changes which have affected the data feeds. This month has many changes to stream line the root parent categories from 31 down to about 10, along with changing many sub categories. This is what is happening to the feeds right now and it still isn't completed.

You have two choices, leave your web site like it is or use the new feeds and it's new categories. That choice is completely up to you.

I could be wrong but if you have created a lot of backlinks to product pages those links wont change with the catagory updates.

If you have linked to certain catagorys I guess those would change.

It would take some time and work but you could make a 301 redirect from the old catagorys you created backlinks to to the new catagorys.

You can always check in Google analytics and make sure theres no broken indexed links.

In the long run I really think this new catagory menu is going to be better for sales.

Thanks,
Ken

To All,

The category changes have been completed and the latest feeds reflect all of the changes. There are no more N/A problems in the feeds. Feel free to contact me if you notice any problems with the data feeds.
